Management Dilemmas in Catholic Human Service – Health Care, Welfare and Education

This work identifies and analyses certain management and governance dilemmas displayed in Australia’s Catholic Human Service Organisations (CHSO), finding that these problems are arising from the complex interaction of Church structures, external economic and political changes, and in the fundamental change in the personnel base of these organisations. While quite uniform in the 1960s, Australian CHSOs have taken on multiple organisational forms in the past years due to the rapid changes in their operational arenas.

Sr Patricia Wittberg, Professor of Sociology at Indiana University, says of the author’s work:

“Her able application of sociological theories of organisation and cultural signification is an uniquely valuable addition to previous historical the theological studies.”
